I Want A Laptop But I Need Suggestions

At the moment, I am dreaming of owning a laptop, something that is going to take a bit of time to find and saving up to buy. What I really need are some suggestions for what kind to buy, what extras to add without costing an arm and a leg. It will be my first laptop so I want it tricked out but affordable.

Have you ever gone to the websites that help you build one? I did that tonight. It's crazy. For one thing, you get all these fantastic options at only this much a month extra or this many dollars total added on. It gives you a list of things I've never heard of so I click on them. Who knows what is lurking in the hearts of those laptops. Of course, some of it is obviously optional so I didn't click on that. For instance, do you need a monitor with your laptop? Um, doesn't it COME with a monitor? Thought so. Didn't take that.

The one thing that it does not do is tell you how much you're racking up while you add this thing and that thing. Ah HA! Knew there was a rub in there somewhere. At the end of my little quest for the so-called perfect machine, I ended up with a pretty impressive laptop. Of course, the thing would cost me almost $2,400 but it sure would be good for a long time. How the heck did that happen???? It started out as a $800 laptop computer. It turned into Godzilla meets Mothra and eats Manhattan!!! Who can afford this stuff????? Oh well. Someday, there will be an affordable laptop in my possession. It's a quest.
