Middle East Problems Bring Diplomats Together
Because of the problems that Hamas is causing, three top ranking diplomats are being invited to a peace summit by Egypt's president. Israelis, Palestinians and Jordan leaders are being given invitations to this summit to join together in unity, standing with President Mahmoud Abbas, against the Hamas.
Those attending will include Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak who has invited Abbas, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Jordan's King Abdullah II. Abbas believes that only through the peace process will they be able to have a buffer against the Hamas extremists.
Abbas will be asking Israel to unfreeze hundreds of millions in funds that have been unavailable to Palestinian leaders since Hamas came into power. He will also request that Israel remove the checkpoints at the West Bank because they disrupt daily life and commerce.
