Anti-American Cleric Flees Iraq for Iran
And just when you thought that things were getting worse...they get better. This so-called cleric flees to where? Iran. Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't Iraq and Iran in a really long war not too terribly long ago? And weren't the clerics, at that time, acting like they hated Iran? What has changed here? Well, guess this guy didn't like the hot kitchen so he got out. Translate that to..there was a security crackdown and he was afraid they would find out about him. One of his buddies says that he left weeks ago. Yeah, right.
Personally, I do think that many of the clerics and other "in power" type folks are really the enemies of Iraq getting back to a state of stability. That would be a major reason for all the bloodshed right now. I don't have too much more to say about this. I just thought it was a curious thing that this guy flees his homeland to a proven enemy. Wonder if he ever was funded by anyone over there? Who knows.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr fled Iraq for Iran ahead of a security crackdown in Baghdad and the arrival of 21,500 U.S. troops sent by President Bush to quell sectarian violence, a senior U.S. official said Tuesday.
Al-Sadr left his Baghdad stronghold some weeks ago, the official said, and is believed to be in Tehran, where he has family. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss U.S. monitoring activities, said fractures in al-Sadr's political and militia operations may be part of the reason for his departure. The move is not believed to be permanent, the official said.
