Record Profits At Chevron Amid Recession Worries

Welcome back!

As the media hypes the idea of a recession coming on pretty fast, the report from Chevron was that they had profits higher than ever before in company history. Does no one see the problem here? Either we are in the grips of a recession and those blood sucking gas companies are trying to get every last dollar we have OR…….or what? That is pretty likely what they are doing. There has to be something incredibly disgusting about oil companies that are profiting through their fantastically high prices earlier this year. We are still financially bleeding from the after effects, aren’t we? Prices are not going down much in the supermarkets, retail stores and discount (what a laugh) places.

I can hardly mention this but Chevron did have their highest quarterly profit in 129 years of business. The thing is that they were one company of many who are all showing RECORD profits while the rest of us are doing our best to stay above water, just barely. It is said by them that they are now bracing for the fallout of a worldwide recession. Uh huh. So, the whole deal is that they were gathering income so that when the recession hit, they would be okay somehow? Sigh.

Things like this make me angry. I just posted on another blog about a phone company that will be charging by the gigabyte after a 5 gigabyte limit a MONTH downloading and uploading. Their customers need to say NO! And now we have the oil companies throwing their wonderful profits in our faces as we go to the pumps and cry out in pain. Yes, the pain is definitely less. But the reality here is that they could charge us far less and still have a profit. If that were not so, they would not be having RECORD profits in a single quarter. Think about it. That quarter was during the worst time in our country’s history for having to spend at the pumps. And then it hit the stores and markets as it hit utilities. We are being bled dry.

When does it end? Or rather the question should now be, does it end? The answer is no. We as a nation are not able to come together as we should to fight against these things. Why? Because we have been raised to be independent and that’s fine as far as it goes. The problem is that with the independent streak that we now have comes the idea that we do not have to combine together to do anything. Each person goes about his/her business not trying to bother anyone. They survive that way. Or used to. But now, if the American public does not stand up and say that they are tired of all this, nothing will ever change. And if you think that by electing a new president, that things will change, they will not. How many times does it take for you to hear that the more things change, the more they stay the same. That is so true. TRUE!

Add it all together and what do you get? The nightmare has begun.
