Text Messaging While Driving…Good Idea?

Welcome back!
Not long ago, there was a horrible accident in California that took the lives of a number of people. It was likely that the person driving the train was responsible because he had been text messaging within the last few seconds of his own life when he should have been watching for the signal to stop so that the other train could go through. You may not have seen much about this because it was coming at the same time the Dow had plunged way down. However, this is a major problem that is not just with that particular guy. It’s in your home town. It’s in the country, on the highway, on the city streets and local roadways. This problem of people text messaging while driving is absolutely horrifying when you think that they have little to no control of the vehicle. According to stats, that person has only 9 percent control over their vehicle.
When I saw the report on cell phone usage and what can happen, I stopped using it while driving. I have never text messaged while driving because I have no clue how to do it anyway. I think in all the time we have had our cell phone, I have text messaged a couple of times and those took me forever to do. I do realize that these people have the art down and can do this quite easily and fast. However, they are arrogant if they believe that they have complete control over their cars or trucks. They do not!! The stats say 91 percent non-control. It’s worse than those who drink or use drugs.
I saw a report today on a young lady who text messages while driving. She lives in Houston, Texas, I believe but she is not alone. Many people do this. While I do not watch this program often, it was on Dr. Phil that I saw the video they made of this girl driving with her cell in her hand, texting and using her KNEE to drive on a highway and on surface streets. She failed their driving course and said that it was not fair since she doesn’t have that normally. She is incredibly dangerous on the road and does not see this at all. That is an arrogance we cannot afford to have on the road. Honestly, it’s bad enough to see a cell phone in someone’s ear and watch them driving because, often, they are not in control then either.
Dr. Phil has on their website a poll concerning text messaging while driving. ONLY SEVEN STATES REGULATE CELL PHONE USE WHILE DRIVING. This does not include texting, just using a cell phone. I encourage you to make your voice heard here. They are not taking your name. You do not have to sign up on their site for this. If you want to put in your two cents on the message boards, you will have to sign up but not for the poll. Please vote on this very important subject. They will be handing over the results to the proper authorities. Again, they do NOT take your name for this poll.

Thank you for the head’s up. I believe that my life and the lives of others on the road are more important than any text message. If it is so important, they should get off the road.
Grumpys last blog post..He’s Here
Yes I agree. This was a shocker for me. I had no idea that so many people were doing this! The fact is that these people think that there is nothing wrong with it at all.
The girl that was driving with her knee was confident that she would not have any problems whatsoever regardless of what she was told about it. The reality is that she is definitely an accident waiting to happen.
