Reality Check: Do You Believe The Candidates?

Posted by: From Arkansas in Are You Kidding Me?, politics on Oct 20 2008

Welcome back!

I call this a reality check because the promises they make are pretty much impossible for them to follow through on most of them. The congress plays a large part in most of the promises made by both candidates. Lets say that Mr. Obama wins the election. How is he going to get congress to pass the promise about health care, taxes, foreign oil? Those things have been in congress for years. Some of them are not at all.

Now, the same question goes for Mr. McCain who would be dealing with the very congress that he had so much trouble with as a member. How is he going to persuade them to accept the promises and follow through for him?

Most likely, it will go the way it has for so many years. The president elect gets into office and all or at least most of the promises are a reality check even for the most conscientious of the people heading into office. They find out just how much power the President really does not have especially with a hostile congress.

And speaking of the congress, the Dems complained and griped about how the Repubs did nothing while they had control of congress. That is pretty much the case. So, the country elected a Dems congress who, in fact, have done nothing. Isn’t it interesting? We, the people, pay those jokers to be there for us. In the end, they are there primarily for themselves. They do collect a paycheck every year and every year, they take a multitude of vacation days, trips here and there and yet we still have foreign oil costing us more and more. They continue to control us because we cannot get away from OPEC when they say they are cutting output. Our President went to them with hat in hand begging them to add more output and they said NO!

We need refineries. We also need for China to do their part in import, export. See, we are importing all that stuff from China each day. And it’s costing us big bucks because every now and then, there is a recall because China is trying to poison us. On the other hand, they do NOT import the same amount. We seem to not be good enough to import our goods, just receive theirs. It’s time to put the stopper on their imports until they are considerate enough to import much more goods. We had to go hat in hand to them to borrow big bucks.

Isn’t it time that we became the independent nation we used to be? Isn’t it time that we, the people, got a clue and demanded some action on the part of the congress who are pretty much sitting on their collective butts and collecting a check without doing much else. The only thing they have truly accomplished was that bailout. IF they had put a stop to the greedy crap going on with the lending institutions in the first place, the whole country would not be in the mess it’s in now. And I can tell you this. I am NOT one to want more government in our lives but this was asinine to begin with and it got worse. Now we are in the worst possible shape we can be. Any shot that an enemy is considering doing more damage on our soil now that we are so wrapped up in ourselves? Just a thought.

I agree with everything that you are saying here. The Democrats PROMISED to do good for the country, what did they do? Nothing that I can see. They lied. What else is new.

Thats the problem. Politicians in general like to promise. But I find that most of them need to listen to the song promises, promises because thats all they do. Some congresspeople DO follow through but they have the ability to do so. Presidents, not so much. They have to rely on congress to pass the bills to fix the promises. Not going to happen.

If we keep listening to them and believing that they are going to do what they say, we will constantly be disappointed.

      Thanks for your visits!!
