Party Tonight At Our House!

Welcome back!
That was what I heard from my parents when I was a teenager many years ago. That did not happen often but we did have some parties. Most of them were at New Year’s Eve or other holiday. I remember these because they were for my parents’ friends but I was also able to invite a few friends of my own. Fun! But the preparation was very important. My Mother and Dad each had their own jobs to do for this affair. Mom fixed all the appetizers and other party foods. Dad was in charge of getting the supplies for the drinks, both alcohol and non. We teens were definitely not going to drink the alcoholic stuff.
I could tell you all about the parties and the fun my friends and I had but I want to focus on one thing my Mom made for an appetizer. The fact is that I have no clue what those things were called but they were so good that I remember how they taste 43 years later. She wrapped green olives into some type of cheese mixture and baked them. After that, she put them on a warming tray with toothpicks in them. If she had not stopped me, there would have been no green olive appetizers that night. I loved those things. Frankly, I have not had those since the last party they had before I left home. For some reason, I just felt the need to share that little bit from my younger years. Maybe some day soon, I’ll ask her what those things are called.
My recommendation to you is if you are going to have a party, do your research. Find at least a half dozen of each type of foods you want to serve and if you’re having a fairly large crowd, definitely get enough for them to have several of each item. By each type of food, I mean that you have a list of types of food…appetizers, main dishes, deserts and so on. You will want to have enough so that if some people invite others to attend too, you will have enough. My parents always expected more people than they invited. That way they were not surprised. It worked! Their parties were usually the kind that people could come at any time after the start time and leave very late. That worked too!! I just have to remember to ask my Mom what was the name of that olive wrap. Now it’s going to bug me until I do that.
