I Miss Traveling Sometimes

Welcome back!
Many years ago, I traveled for a living. It was hard work but it was rewarding too….sometimes. I did get to see more of this country than I ever would have if I had simply tried to travel when I could. “Could” would never have come. Only when I was working was I able to see more of America. That was really nice. I do miss that, from time to time. What I do not miss are the hassles from my dispatcher, the dockworker attitudes, the motorists that cannot drive but think they can, road rage, difficult appointment times, police, state troopers after truckers, endless hours sitting at the wheel and so much more. But I did like the pay and the lovely vacations.
From time to time, I had loads that went across I-80 into California or down into Nevada. Ah, those Vegas vacations that I was able to take. The shows, the casinos were all great. More often, I landed in Reno but who’s counting? The Reno trips were usually more exciting since I was stuck, usually because of Donner Pass being blocked or closed by various weather conditions, mostly snow. I got stuck one time in May. My dispatcher did not believe me. I guess I could not blame him. But I never lied to him so I expected him to at least trust me. But he didn’t, So, I told him to check a radar screen and get back to me. See, Donner Pass was totally engulfed in snow, lots of snow. That pass did not open for a couple of days. I guess the company called to see what conditions were there because I got to stay for a couple days on the company dime. I loved that one!!!

I used to do quite a bit of driving as well. It’s really nice driving through the country. There’s so much to see.
But I can definitely relate to all the things you do not miss! Especially the endless hours sitting at the wheel…
Oh, I enjoyed all the things I knew I could not ever afford to see any other way. That was awesome. But the other things, nope, I do not miss those.
