Good And Bad Of Medicare

Posted by: From Arkansas in Health Topics, Medical, government on Sep 14 2008

Welcome back!

I am not going to slam Medicare here because it is going to help us stay above the financial waters right now. Our medical bills would completely drown us were it not for Medicare. It is taking care of quite a lot of my husband’s hospital and doctor bills. Mine, too, are being taken care of. As you may know if you read this blog at all, I have had several reasons to need Medicare.

But there is one glaring problem. Well, I suspect there are others but this one is touching us at this time. As wonderful as it is to be able to have our hospital and doctor bills even partially paid, it is not so wonderful that Medicare does not do a single thing for dental care. Not one single thing. Regular checkups would help tremendously. Even if all it paid for was emergency dental care, that would help. See, I know what its like to not have good dental care. There are several members of my family that would benefit from good dental care but cannot because Medicare does not help with that.

Are you aware of what good dental care costs today? Those of us on Social Security cannot pay for such things. How is it that good dental care or even adequate dental care has been overlooked for all these years? Is that right? We, who need it, are lacking in dental care. Maybe it looks like a stereotypical person from the hills to have gaps in their mouths but it is not because they just chose it. It’s because people cannot afford to see a dentist. Isn’t it time for Congress to get a huge clue and put dental care into the Medicare program before people have more and more problems?
