The Good Old Double Standard Is Alive And Well

The truth is that I am disgusted with people who live within a double standard. I am so tired of people who will do one thing and talk against another. For instance, while I have listened to the load of…….stuff that has come out about Sarah Palin and how she is hurting her family by campaigning for Vice President. She is also getting flack from all sorts of places for her daughter who happens to be 17 years old, pregnant and going to marry the father of the kid. She is getting this flack because she is a good mother and wife. So, the media which hypes anything that is unusual or supposedly newsworthy found out about all this and now it’s a big magilla.

On the other hand, Mr. Obama is not getting flack for leaving his family, not hearing about it because he does not spend enough time with his kids and so forth. You do not hear the critical analysis of his family except when he buys a house from someone he should not have. Oh yes, houses. Have we counted all the houses that everyone owns this week? We must not miss out on that dirty laundry, after all. Isn’t it about time we told the media to bug off? They are trying to run the election. Do you see this? They do it every year. For instance, Mr. Obama gets plenty of positive air time. Mrs. Palin and Mr. McCain are getting as much negative press as the media can handle. Double standard anyone?

The double standard is, indeed, alive and well in the United States of America. We heard all about the “land of the free and home of the brave” at the Olympics each time someone or team won the gold. But is it like that these days? Not really. Supposedly, a person who wants to be President or Vice President can do so if they get elected. Pure and simple. Uh nope. Not anymore. It is no longer pure or simple. Why? Because the media and the politicians get involved. When that happens, it’s all about who owes who and what can we get on that person to destroy their chances of getting elected?

Double standards have existed for decades, hundreds, thousands of years. And it is most definitely alive and well right here, right now. Mr. Obama seems to be in pretty good shape according to the media. He is a loving father, husband and great with the voters. Sarah Palin is leaving her family too much, has to get home and deal with the crisis now, needs to be more of a wife and mother and leave the politics to someone else….like a man. Is that the way you think? If it is, shame on you!!!!! You are part of the double standard that we females have been living under for too long to count. For instance, in this enlightened land of ours, women still get less pay for doing the same job as a man. COME ON!!! And now, that same double standard is alive in the campaign trail as well. Unbelievable.

Are we talking apples and oranges when we mention Sarah Palin in the same breath as Barak Obama? I don’t think so. They are both relative newcomers to the national political scene. The difference is that Mr. Obama is a senator who has had little in the way of experience in government leadership, foreign policy and so on. Mrs. Palin is currently governor of Alaska, a government leadership position. Either way, there is going to be history made during this election. We will either have the first black man in the White House or the first woman Vice President.

So, let us not turn this into a slinging match just because we can. Let’s not hit the double standard here with woman being less than a man. This woman has really impressed me with her knowledge and straight forward attitude. Mr. Obama has repeatedly lied to us and changed what he says to suit the crowd. We cannot have that again in the White House. In case you have not been paying attention, we had the Clinton White House. Lies and more lies. We do not need more of that.

Folks, this is not really about black or female. This is about who is the best qualified for the job of President and Vice President. You must decide that based on what you know about the candidates, not their color or their gender. This is about what they can bring to the offices of President and Vice President. I think we have a winner. In the meanwhile, regardless of how you vote, do the right thing. Get out and vote. Now, if you are one of those loud mouthed people that does not like what they have seen in the office either now or in the past, then get off your couch potato tail and get out to vote. Yes, your vote does count. No matter who you vote for, at least be informed. KNOW who you vote for before you get there. Otherwise, you will help put someone in the office that you may not care for once they get there. Do the work. Don’t regret pulling any lever just to say you voted. Be informed. And for goodness sake, don’t just believe everything you hear on television, radio or the newspapers and magazines. This is the information age. Go find it!!!!

Isn’t it strange how the media will bring up things from 20 years ago to smear someone, but ignore the very obvious things right in front of them like a Senator that refuses to make a decision?

Oh yeah. That is part of the problem. The media is trying to run the campaigns and they are doing a great job of it because the people don’t want to do their homework. they will believe anything the media puts out including stuff that happened a long time ago but ignore what is right in front of everyone’s noses.
