The Day Of The Big Grocery Trip

Posted by: From Arkansas in Family stuff on Aug 08 2008

Welcome back!

Do you have days like that? We live in rural Arkansas and do not have the luxury of getting in the car and heading to the closest anything. We have our stores, of course, but they sometimes leave something to be desired…like…things you really want or need. Yep, it’s like that. So, we have learned to conserve our gas and energy. Once a month, we take a trip to Missouri where they have this really great store that we love to shop at called Aldi’s. Maybe some of you know about it. Now, not every store in their group is that good but this one is.

I call my mother and get her list. Armed with two lists and plenty of gas in the car, we head out to the store we plan to visit once a month. It’s 50 miles from our house to that store, 70 coming back to drop Mom’s grocery order off and then another 20 back to our house. Is it really worth it? So far it is. The prices are good for most things and they certainly beat the local competition. We get ground turkey way cheaper than the local hot shot store has but there are a lot of other things too. Mainly, we are getting our money’s worth. Oh and there is one other nice dividend. The price of gas in Missouri is way cheaper, sometimes as much as 10-12 cents a gallon. We get the car filled there as well. Nice. And at the end of the day, we have enough groceries to last, except for perishables, for just about a month on the things we do buy there. I like it.
