Back In Those Good Ol’ Days

Posted by: From Arkansas in Family stuff on Jul 26 2008

Welcome back!

Yeah right. The “good ol’ days” were fun most of the time whether they were actually good or not. My memories are that they were good days….mostly. I was in junior high school. It was my birthday party and it was a sleep over. 5 of my friends wanted to enjoy my party in babydolls and pjs. The presents were opened, the cake came out, the candles blown, the party began. I was in seventh heaven because my friends were there and I got stuff I wanted.

That night, we watched scary movies until quite late, after midnight. That was pretty late for me, okay? When we all trooped up to my room, three were on the floor and one in the bed with me. Yes, I offered but they wanted to be on the floor. Made it more of a party. My side window faced the street. We lived at the corner so you could see both streets from my window. Nice spot to watch the traffic. There was little traffic at that time of night.

Down the street came a couple of guys walking. One of my friends whispered out the window to them. That didn’t work. Next, she got a little bit louder but that they heard. She talked with them, people she had never seen before in her life, and decided to go out to see them. She climbed out my window and ended up down on the sidewalk with them. She did not come back that night. I was really worried about her. She was the least known person in my party but I still wondered what happened to her.

The next morning after not having had any sleep at all, we all schlepped down to the kitchen. My Mom wanted to know what happened to my friend. When we told her what had happened, she was pretty clear that we should have told my parents about it when it happened. However, all things go better back at school. She was there. She’d had a good time walking around with the boys who walked her home before dawn. If that had happened now, someone would expect to see her on a missing poster, I suspect. Those were the good ol’ days.
