After The Fireworks Are Over
Posted by: From Arkansas in Holidays on Jul 07 2008
Welcome back!
Every year, we have some folks across the street from us who love to shoot their own fireworks, usually at our house. This year, they did not do that, shoot at our house, that is. They did shoot fireworks. I wondered what was wrong with them. Of course, I was not about to ask. Always let sleeping dogs lie. If you don’t, things can get a tad hairy.
And after the fireworks were all shot, after the kids all went inside, after the smoke cleared, it was rather peaceful. And then two nights later, we started to hear what sounded like the sonic booms that jets make. We realized that it had to be the fireworks display that could not happen on the 4th because the weather was so bad. It was raining, of course. Happens all the time when an outdoor activity is about to happen.
So, we hear this for about a half hour. Nothing happens after that until the people from across the street start to play a game of some sort in the front yard. And if I was a betting person, I would bet that they were playing beer pong or at least that was what it looked like to me. Wow. Do not let the local constabulary see that going on in the yard. Nope. We are living in a dry county for now. I say, for now, since once again, the issue will be on the ballot in November. I certainly hope that it doesn’t happen. We love living in a dry county. Ah well. Happy after the 4th to ya.
