Supreme Court Nixes Gun Ban

Posted by: From Arkansas in Political News, politics on Jun 27 2008

Welcome back!

Yesterday, the Supreme Court shot down (pun intended) the gun ban law in Washington, DC. This gives rise to the number of lawsuits that are likely to happen now. The question is…are they right? The argument seems to be that if there are more strict gun laws, that there will be fewer guns. Is that really true? Actually, no. What is the reality is that when the law abiding citizens do not have guns due to the laws, then the crooks and bad guys are the only ones with the firearms. That does not seem right to me.

The Constitution said that the states have a right to a well weaponed militia and that we were allowed to have personal firearms as well. The Supreme Court upheld that interpretation of the Constitution. But now, there are lots of people who don’t care for that ruling. Personally, I like it. And that has nothing to do with me wanting guns. I do not actually like guns. I feel that if we have them in the house, the bad guys end up with more guns. But that is only when people do not know how to use them properly.

When this country was just being born, each person who wanted to fight for the country had a gun of some type. It is my belief that when the writers of the Constitution penned it, they had that in mind as well. This is not about states’ rights. This is about ours. Whether we want the guns or not, we need to back this particular Supreme Court decision based on the fact that our freedoms are being ripped from us every day. Surely we can keep some of them.
