National Average On Gas At All Time High! 4 Bucks
Posted by: From Arkansas in Are You Kidding Me?, Gas prices and Oil companies on Jun 08 2008
Welcome back!
While I do know that because the greedy oil jerks in the middle east are sending the prices through the roof as in $138 a barrel and telling us that the reason is demand, it is also evident that they could, if they so chose, drop the price just as fast according to demand. Just as evident, is the fact that the greedy oil companies in this country could, if they so chose, drop the price of gas at the pump so that the financial bleeding that’s going on could have a breather. At this time, AAA says that the national average on gas is $4 a gallon. Is this criminal or what?
The problem that I see is that though congress has some say in this, they are doing nothing or nearly nothing. Although they had the top 5 CEOs of the greedy oil companies in front of them for a big show, the truth is that congress apparently cannot afford, in an election year, to piss off the oil companies so they put on the show and let us all hang by our fingernails.
My hope is that all of this is reflected at the poles in November. Now, if you are thinking that I want Mr. Obama to fix it all, you would be wrong. If you are thinking that Ms. Clinton would have a major hand in that, it would be just as wrong. I do not believe those people are capable of doing anything. I do think that Mr. Bush could press for some type of reform or controls on the greedy oil companies that post record profits while all of us are struggling to make ends meet though.
Are you making ends meet? Many of us live on social security and other fixed incomes. Many of us are drawing things like food stamps when in the past that would never have happened. Many of us are going to food pantries when we must feed our children. In the past, that would not have been necessary. So many of us are struggling just to survive that we cannot even pay our mortgages.
Does no one up on that hill in Washington see how this is bringing down our country further than ever? The high incidence of foreclosures added to the extremely high gas prices that are driving the prices of literally everything else upward are causing the financial bleeding that is occurring in the country right now. Add that to the fact that we no longer have respect in the world, that we are no longer the super power we used to be and you have a recipe for disaster and downfall. We are beginning to look a lot like an ancient Rome whose leaders believed themselves invincible and powerful. History tells us that the mighty fall and hard.
At some point, we need our elected officials to step in and help us before we all go completely broke and end up in the meal lines at the local mission house. It may seem far fetched but maybe not. Think depression. Food lines were incredibly long then. The lines for seeking jobs was even worse. People were out of work and trying to stay alive by any means possible. I realize that we have official government helps in place for that now so that does not happen the same way it did then….or do we? Can our government really afford to feed so many people? Can it afford to pay people to sit at home because they cannot work? What happens when the unemployment checks run out as they surely will. At the most, people are able to get a year of checks. What then?
Help stop the financial bleeding! Write your congressperson and demand that they seek relief from all this. But, it will be too little, too late, I am afraid. We are already on the downturn in this world. If you have not already, it is certainly time to pray for our country. We surely need that worse than anything else.

You’re right we do need politicians to step in before we go completely broke. Do you think oil will go to $150 to 200 a barrel within a year like they’re saying? If it does we’re going to be going into a depression… please help us Washington!
