My Dad: Remembering Him

Welcome back!
Dad was awesome. When I was little, my Dad could not do anything wrong. Of course, that was a small child’s idea but he was great. I was 5 when he got me my first bike. That was a disaster at first. It had training wheels. Our back yard was all grass and hard to ride on. Dad would not let me into the street then, of course, so it was grass city at least for a while. Not long after that, the city decided to pave the street. It had been a dirt road. We got nifty sidewalks too. I got to ride there!!!
Then came the day that I got to ride in the street! WOW! That lasted about as long as it took to ride down the hill, forget that I had a brake and run into the back of our parked car. Did it twice. Yep, that was about it for the bike for a while.
Dad worked at the local department store downtown. I knew that because on a couple nights a week, Mom and I had to go get him from work. I got to ride on the elevator and sometimes on the escalator too! He was the manager of the dry goods section of the store. After a few years, he bought his own business, he and a partner. They sold custom window blinds and draperies. It was a very thriving business. He owned that until both my parents decided to move to Arkansas. He said it was time to sell the business.
Arkansas was great because he and Mom bought a farm, the same farm she still lives on today. Dad loved the farm. It brought him back to his roots. He was born and raised on a farm. It was fantastic for him. And he died there too in the place he wanted to be with his wife beside him. We love you, Dad!!!
