Will The Pain Ever End? Congress Does Nothing
Posted by: From Arkansas in Are You Kidding Me?, Gas prices and Oil companies on May 20 2008
Welcome back!
The pain at the pump continues to plague Americans despite the fact that congress could do something to stop it. The senators acknowledge that the oil companies have lots of money because of us going to the pump out of necessity. No longer are we riding around for kicks. Now we must conserve our gas for emergencies and trips to the store for much needed supplies. We cannot be frivolous anymore.
And while we are suffering this burden in our wallets and purses, congress does little to ease the pain. Our President went to the Saudi big shot to beg for more oil to be released. The big shot said a resounding NO! And he is supposed to be our friend. YEAH RIGHT! In the meanwhile, the President criticized the congress for not doing enough to help the American public in our hour of need. Congress simply adds another band-aid to the stacked band-aids already in place.
Today, President Bush signed a bill to stop the filling of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Yet, the President says that it will not be enough to stop the pain. People are putting medicine money towards the tank of gas needed instead of buying the medications. They are cutting the food purchases and other not as necessary items in order to survive.
And with the Memorial Day weekend coming up, the prices on gas will continue to rise despite the fact that people are beginning to hate the oil companies because of their record profits. I still recall that recently they had the guts to go into a congressional committee meeting and beg for more tax breaks. This is not acceptable. When are these people who run the greedy oil companies going to get the message that we are starting to believe they have no heart at all. Dead, cold flesh instead of seeing the hurt and the pain they are causing. When is our congress going to do something about it??? WHEN???

actually in the gov, many things are kept secret. currently gas r shortage to the whole world, n the price for it keep on rising, this might helps so org earning tons of cash.
spring will always come back after winter, things will get better after this crisis.
good day
I don’t agree. I believe that things will definitely get worse before they get better. In fact, I believe they will get far worse. How about the fact that the US will end up being a second rate power before it’s all over. How about that we will be struggling to stay a sovereign nation before it’s over. Someday you will see what I mean.
Thanks for your comments!
well, ppl are getting concern about the limited resources we have and now those countries who are rich in natural resources will sure want to reserve for its own ppl rather than helping others. The only i tink is unless the govt invented stg tht can replace oil, our suffer will never ends.
You are correct. Our suffering has only begun. We live in what used to be a powerful and rich nation. Oh we are still rich and somewhat powerful but our days are numbered. We will regret not having done something about that gas shortage problem in the 70s. Now it is coming back to bite us in the butt.

I don’t think we can count on government to help with gas prices. At least not during this term….

I do believe you are right. Not sure if it’s the administration or the congress. I have recently seen the congress simply doing the “show” of talking to the oil execs. They do not appear to be doing much of anything.
Thanks for your input here.
gov cant do anything bout the gas pricing now, coz gas are limited around the world.
I cannot agree with you there. Many people either were not here yet or do not remember the lines at the pumps in 1972. It was horrible. And the government knew then that we had problems with big oil companies and the middle east oil people. THEY DID NOTHING. THEY ARE STILL DOING NOTHING. They could but are not.
Thanks for visiting!
Gov. Need to take steps about the issue. The gas price become so far day by day. It is really horrible.

I agree. The problem is that there are many governments that could do something but are not. I’ve no idea why since if they banded together they could actually have a voice but our President goes, hat in hand, to the jerk Saudi boss and what does he get for his troubles? A resounding NO!! We will not give you more oil. We are in control and we could care less if you have problems. In fact, we want you to have problems. That way we can CONTROL YOU!!!!
They want us to not only fail as a nation but fall as a nation. ANd we helped them do this to us. WE HELPED THEM!!!
Thank you for your opinions!
i don’t think the government cares - most of them drive government vehicles fueled from government pumps all paid for with our tax dollars.

They do not care. If the government had cared about us…as in the people of the United States, they would have done something way back when they knew there was a problem. They did nothing. They are still doing nothing.
It’s a grand show for the congress to sit and grill the oil execs. But it is doing absolutely nothing to force the oil companies to drop the prices. They could. After all, they have record profits.

Here well arranged and varied posts appear again and again. I look gladly here past. Many greetings from the center of Germany!
Greetings to you as well. Yes, there are many posts here as with any blog posting fairly often. Thanks for sharing.

It was, indeed, horrible. If you didn’t have enough gas going into the line, coming up on the pump just as it ran out was so awful. People now do not understand this.
