Gas Prices Continue To Rise

In areas where public transportation is available, there is a sharp increase in travelers. And no wonder. The price of gas rose from $3.36 to $3.46. Then a day later it went to $3.59. I suspect it is not going to go down until something is done and some agency steps in to control the situation. I really hate to suggest that the government start to control the prices of gasoline and diesel fuel but it looks like the money hungry oil barons in the middle east AND the local money hungry counterparts are winning.
In the area where we live, there is no such thing as public transportation. We are subject to the will and wants of the oil companies and those who feed them. Because things are so far apart, we must use the fuel to get where we need to go. For instance, if we want to go to a grocery store, it’s more than 5 miles away. Walmart is 9 miles from us. A hospital is over 65 miles from us. That’s the closest one. There are others slightly farther away. Clothing can be purchased but not close by. Fast food places are not that plentiful but we have them. Food delivery is only through the fast food places and costs $3.
Actually, you can buy things from a hardware store, ice machine, go to the bank and many other things but most are very far away. The only thing close to us is our bank, one of them. It’s about a mile and a half for the branch closest to us. We can get our car repaired that close to us too. But the rest is much farther away.
We spend almost $90 a month for gas. Now, I do realize that is probably pretty small compared to those who work. We are disabled, on social security and have a mostly fixed income. That price is almost out of our league. And then we are not traveling any more than we have to. That’s two tanks of gas a month plus any extra driving we do. And this is not enough. What are we going to do when it goes to $4 a gallon????? HELP!!!!! Somebody!

I don’t know if it’s just my browser, but I couldn’t read your post…it was black on black. I highlighted the text so I could see it. But onto the post–I feel your pain. We spend close to $40.00 a week on gas. What the crap??!? I saw that you’re in Arkansas; I really thought Huckabee was the man.

There is nothing much we can do because the price is increase globally.. I think its time to find alternative of gas for vehicle. Maybe electric cars or at least hybrid technology… money money money

There are a few things we can do. We can go to our congresspeople and tell them how we feel. I do realize that they know but the more people who actually contact them the better.
Yes, I do know that it’s global..to a point. But I totally believe that the greedy oil companies are capable of doing something about it. It’s just that in order to do what they must, they have to have less profit. The poor things.
Thanks for your visit.
This is bound to happen.. So much oil wasted for the wars that are unneccesary. Once the fossil fuel starts depleting it would be even worse. Start to cycle to wherever you want to go begining from now to save on fuel. =D
Oh yeah, you do have the answers. I believe I mentioned that we live in a rural area. Biking everywhere would NOT be the best plan for people my age in the area we live in based on the fact that there are some very steep hills just in our village, never mind the highways to anything else. And that will so help us when we need to go to the grocery store.
Got any other brilliant ideas???
