She Turned 115 Today

Posted by: From Arkansas in Just Stuff, Odds And Ends on Apr 20 2008

Welcome back!

Shelbyville, Indiana, was the place. Edna Parker is the person. Born April 20, 1893. What is her secret? Well, she has been thin all her life and she did not worry and still does not. Hmm, is there something we could learn from this woman? You bet! Worry takes a toll on anyone who does that. And of course, keeping a good healthy weight would also follow.

75 people currently alive are over 110 today, 64 women and 11 men, called supercentenarians. I find this absolutely interesting. And the problem is that I am not doing any of the things this woman is doing. I am not thin. I have been a worrier in my life. I do try not to but it comes anyway. I suspect most of you are like that. But what actually does keep these folks here and age so gracefully? The “experts” do not know yet. So, they took a blood sample from her as well as all of the others they know about.

By the way, Edna is the oldest of all the group. She made Guinness World Book too. She has been a widow since 1938 when her husband died and had lived on their farm until the age of 100 when she moved in with her son and his wife. Since then, she has been living in a nursing home. We find that this is awesome!!! Congratulations to Edna Parker!!
