Baby Bottles Unsafe If BPA Is Present

Posted by: From Arkansas in Are You Kidding Me?, Shame of America on Apr 20 2008

Welcome back!

Walmart is pulling all baby bottles that have the chemical BPA associated with them. This chemical is used to make the bottles hard but it seems that it also appears to be going into the liquid and into the babies that drink from them. However, the industry that makes the bottles says that these bottles are not unsafe. They are changing the way the bottles are made but most of the bottles will not be off shelves of other retailers until next year. Is that too late? Possibly. But the consumers know what they want and are leaving those particular bottles on the shelves in large quantities.

The chemical known as bisphenol A is the culprit in this story. It is also used in many other food product containers. The problem is that yet more experts are saying that there is no cause for alarm yet very low doses of this chemical get into used baby bottles and combine with the liquids they hold. In humans this can be a rather dramatic situation…birth defects, spontaneous abortions and mental retardation. And the experts say you shouldn’t be alarmed. EXCUSE ME????

I agree with Walmart removing all of these bottles from the shelves. The problem is, is it too late for some folks who already bought the bottles and used them on their newborn infants? This needs to be taken more seriously than the so-called experts want to do. Is this a Shame of America? I think so. What do you think about it?
