Second Amendment: A Right?

Posted by: From Arkansas in Are You Kidding Me? on Apr 11 2008

Welcome back!

This is a controversial issue no matter how you look at it. However, in it’s simplest terms, the second amendment says that the people have the right to bear arms. There is some discussion that what it really means is that the government has the right to assemble a military and use guns as weapons and protection. Uh, no.

The amendment does say that we, the people, have the RIGHT to bear arms. That means that we, the collective and we the singular, have the right to have weapons as long as we register them with regards to the law.

Now, when you get people like Ms. Rosie O’Donnell who think that they know what they are talking about but do not, in fact, have a clue, then you have problems. Ms. O’Donnell for whatever reason, says that the second amendment is not a right. Excuse me???? Since when?? Did somebody change that amendment while I wasn’t looking? For what it’s worth, I don’t particularly like guns at all. I do not want one in my house. BUT that does not mean that I want to stomp all over the constitution and say that we cannot have arms because of it. That simply is not so.

With all due respect to Ms. O’Donnell, she should probably read the document before she says anything else. For the rest of us, it is very important that we continue to keep all the rights we know we have since the government, over many years, has been legislating our rights away as fast as they can. If you do not believe that, check out some of the changes that have been made to the laws in recent years. Oh my!!!

Reading such documents by people like Rosie doesn’t seem to help. They see what they want, it means what they want. They need to be told in no uncertain terms what it means and told like house pets “NO!” when they express a desire to crap all over them.

Wow! Thank you. Obviously, I could not have said it better!

Just fro the record Ms. O’Donnell has no formal education. Therefor what passes from her lip is much the same as what is passed in the form of *&**. from some other orficious of her anatomy. The old saying about “why let let someone assume your intelligence when you can open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Yes Stephen, Ms. O’Donnell does talk when she does not know where of she speaks as do many others who think they know. Such as those who believe there is such a statement as “separation of church and state”. Do you know that that phrase does not exist except in a statement made by a justice of the supreme court in the ’40s? Uh huh.

That means that we, the collective and we the singular, have the right to have weapons as long as we register them with regards to the law.

Where does it say in the constitution we have to register guns? Umm…NOWHERE!

I just love anony-mouse comments. Those come from people who wish to remain unknown so that they can say what they like and are not held accountable when necessary.

As for registering firearms, I agree that it does not so state in the constitution but it is stated in laws of the states. Therefore, if you choose to abide by the laws of the land, you can have a firearm in your possession.

Thank you, anony-mouse for your comment.

    1) 2nd amendment NOWHERE says we have the right to bear arms ‘AS LONG AS WE REGISTER THEM’

    2) The 2nd Amendment IS NOT A RIGHT. It is a statement that we HAVE the right to bear arms. That right exists regardless of the statement found as an amendment. We have that right because we are alive and thus enabled with the ability to defend ourselves. Anyone who argues against a person being able to defend themself is, in essence, saying ‘you are not worth being alive.

      1) As stated in the previous comment, it does not state that in the constitution but it IS a law of the states. You will need to abide by those laws.

The 2nd amendment is contained within the document called “THE BILL OF RIGHTS” making it a right. Because the laws of the states are in effect, if you want to stay out of trouble with the law, you must abide by them as long as it is humanly possible. Now I totally agree that at some point that will not be the case. Until it is, you will need to abide by the laws in order to lawfully own a firearm.

Frankly, I agree that you should be able to defend yourself…with force if necessary. Some of the laws concerning intrusions into the person’s home appear to be changing back. We SHOULD be able to bear arms to keep the safety of our homes and family. The fact that some laws say that we cannot is truly wrong. Yes, SOME laws are wrong. Agreed.
