Negative Campaigning: Does It Work?
Posted by: From Arkansas in Are You Kidding Me?, My Take on Things on Mar 28 2008
Welcome back!
When Presidential campaigning starts, I just want to find a hole and crawl in. I absolutely hate to listen to all the backbiting and faultfinding that the candidates do when they want to be in a political office, especially the White House. But does negative campaigning work? This is just my own opinion for what it’s worth.
I do not believe, in the long run, that negative campaigning works at all. Sure, the other guy can find things wrong with the one person but does that make things right? Not really. The biggest problem is that these days, it’s much easier to find out if the one doing the smear tactics is telling the true story or not. Extremely purposeful ads on television try to show the other person as incompetent or without experience. The truth is…in the case of the Dems, there is no experience on either side though Ms. Clinton wants you to believe otherwise. Obama has no experience either but he talks a good game. The problem is that he has no game.
Ms. Clinton says that she came under fire during a trip to the middle east. The reality is that she did not. Lies come out all the time. Then the mudslinging…Mr. Obama is being criticized for what his former Pastor has said. They say that his choice of pastor could be considered a lack of good judgment.
Look, I do not believe that Mr. Obama is going to be good for us in office. That is how I feel. He is not experienced, he has said things that I do not agree with and he is not the best candidate. BUT, I do not believe his choice of pastor has a whole lot to do with that. Come on!!! There are much broader issues with him. Why bother a man who is now retired. Mr. Obama cannot have responsibility for what his pastor said years ago. Sigh.
Ms. Clinton is not a shiny star either. She certainly has a past of her own. And her current attitude leaves a lot to be desired as well. The biggest problem is that her negative campaign is going to torpedo her chances at the White House. Frankly, we do NOT need the Clintons in there again. Once was enough…..WAY ENOUGH!
So, the bottom line and the answer to the question in the title? The answer is no it does not. Eventually, the person putting up the campaign will be hurt by it. They might hurt the other person too. And what good does negative campaigning do? Not much except to show who NOT TO VOTE FOR since they have such a low opinion of their own worth that they have to trash others to look good in contrast. Take that!!!!

I agree that BO wouldnt’ be good for us, but I disagree on whether his pastor is important.
Wright is a man who basically hates the US and most especially white people
and BO was a member of his congregation for 20+ years; was married by the man and had his daughters baptized by him. You do not continue going to a place where you don’t agree with the people for 20 years
First, thanks for supporting me in the quest for a laptop that has been a long time coming.
As for the pastor, regardless of what he has done or said, BO cannot take responsibility for what was said or done. That has to land on the shoulders of the pastor himself. I suspect he will have to answer for all that hatred someday.
BO does have problems because of the guy, granted. However, I believe that he has to be responsible for his actions and the pastor his.
I do understand what you’re saying though. BO sat under the teaching of this guy, called him pastor and absorbed as much as possible, if we understand him correctly. That could definitely be a problem and a danger. BO (I really like that…sounds like…well, okay nuff of that) may not fall far from his roots. If that is the case, we could definitely have a dyed-in-the-wool racist in the White House if he gets in. Wouldn’t be the first time but it would be a real problem now.
I guess one of my problems with BO and Clinton are that they are getting in on a gender and race voting public. That is not smart. We need someone in the office that can actually BE a president, not just pretend to be one like I suspect we would get with either of them.
