If there are two words on the face of the earth I hate more, I cannot think of them..diet and exercise. Funny thing is that a few years ago, they were fine for me. Of course, then I was active, loved the fruit plate (I still do but we do not live near that restaurant anymore), enjoyed walking for miles and so on. But now, it is a tremendous fight to have any weight loss at all for me.
Yes, of course, I have things to eat that are not on any diet plan. You know why? Because every diet plan I have ever gone on included leaving out your favorite foods, the ones that you think about all day long if someone is saying “no” to you about them. That is the problem with those plans. Most do not take one’s mental state into account. If they do, it’s not really all that helpful. That I can attest to since I have been on so many plans to lose weight. Sigh.
The reality is that if you truly want to lose weight, the best option is to learn how to have balanced meals, not through the government triangle but simply by using one’s own common sense if that is still around. If there is a lot of fat, it’s a no no. If there is a lot of carbs, try for things that have less.
I absolutely hate the idea of getting on some meal plan that says you have to buy this number of meals a week. The reason is that they are expensive and you learn absolutely nothing about how to control your intake. Yes, you get the meals, prepackaged and ready to eat. Fine. Great. So, when you can no longer afford them, what have you learned about how to deal with your weight loss? My guess is that anyone who is or was on one of those meal plans that get the meals in the mail will eventually weigh just as much or more than when they first started. Why? Because they still do not know how to control their eating habits.
Over the years, I learned a lot about weight gain and loss. My personal fight with weight is getting to be more than I like to handle but I need to lose the weight and I am determined to do so. And the exercise. I know I haven’t mentioned it here yet really but that’s because I do not do much of it. We have a treadmill that we bought years ago. It is still in relatively good condition since we do not make too much use of it. I am about to change that. YEA! I will see what happens tomorrow when I wake up after fighting the cat all night. Yawn!

I agree, there are many ways to be healthy without having to eat a strict diet.
I hate strict diets. All they do is make you blow the diet. They do nothing to help teach a person to do a lifestyle change which is what’s really needed.

In my opinion the secret to losing weight is to exercise. People who subject themselves to dieting ofthen lose weight at first…but put it all back on later. Here’s a good video to explain it all.

You just can’t cut out eating and expect to keep weight off. You need to turn fat into muscle.
That’s my view , at least.
