On February 5th, sometime near 6:50 pm, our county in Arkansas experienced an EF3 tornado. It actually appears to have started somewhere around Atkins, Arkansas, and come north east many miles to damage and kill many people in it’s path. My brother-in-law drove into the tornado that night but was blessed to have not only survived but relatively unscathed. The minivan he was driving did not manage to make it however.
Days later, the electric company has been able to restore power to many businesses and homes, taking the time to patch cables that were lying on the ground or in the street or add new ones, although the major share of businesses in the small town of Highland, Arkansas, are damaged or completely gone due to the tornado. Eyewitnesses stated that they knew the tornado was close to them when they saw headlights swirling around up in the air.
Cleanup efforts are underway at most locations. People are picking up the pieces, sorting out the things that are safe to keep, throwing away others. Piled next to the roads are tree limbs and trash. But the main thing here is that the hope of the people that have such losses are amazing. They will rebuild and life will go on.
