Living In The Ozarks On A Dime Or Two

Welcome back!
If I haven’t told you already, we live in the Ozarks in Arkansas. We live in a smallish village where there are people from all over the country and some from other countries as well. Quite often, we will see people moving in or out, big moving vans showing up in the street, staying for hours. A new family has arrived.
One time, we decided to get in there and make friends quickly. The van was particularly full of their things, making it appear that they had come from a very large house to a much smaller place in our neighborhood. I had an idea that it didn’t sit well with the teens I saw walking around either. You know, we have a rather slow life here. It is not full of excitement. Of course, we have had a couple of incidents here but we have lived in this house for over 6 years too.
Anyway, I wanted to talk to the woman of the house so I went over with cookies in hand as a welcome to the neighborhood gift. She was a wonderful person, very nice, frazzled from moving, of course. We hit it off right away. We joked back and forth about a variety of subjects. The teens had found a friend down the street so they weren’t at home right then. And being a smart aleck, I just had to ask her “Is this a corporate relocation or something with all this stuff you have?”
I will give it to her, she was very polite. “No,” she replied, “the next van is bringing that part.” My teeth almost dropped out of my head. As I looked shocked beyond believe, she started to laugh and laugh at my expression. I told her that I thought then that she was joking. After that, it was more hysterical laughter. I was beginning to wonder about her sanity when the kids got back. They shouted “MOM!” to her and she calmed down. Apparently, I had asked the wrong question. I found out later that it was just as I thought, a relocation, and the second van was really their stuff too. The woman bought the house sight unseen and thought it was about 5 times as big as it was. I got caught in her hysteria. Sigh.

I can’t imagine buying a house and not having seen it but when you relocated due to job I guess sometimes your just have to trust the realtor and pictures on the net. We moved once and it took 1 and 1/2 semi trucks and people must have looked at us. We came from a huge house in the North to a ranch home in the South. Needless to say our garage was full for sometime till we disposed of or donated items.
Yes, I can’t imagine that either but some people have to do it that way, apparently. Wow! Sounds like trying to stuff a round ball into a square peg hole. ACK!!
