Back When We Were Dating

Posted by: From Arkansas in Family stuff, Fun things, It Ain't Sorted, So What on Jan 06 2008

Welcome back!

My husband and I have been married for a few years now. But I remember back when we were dating. After he proposed to me, we went shopping for wedding rings. They weren’t the greatest rings on the face of the earth but they were ours and we loved them. When we got married, we thought they would be on our fingers for the rest of our lives because, essentially, that was what we promised. But it was not to be so.

In 1998, my husband had an awful car crash into a really big wall sign which took out the car and nearly took him out too. He was in the hospital for about 4 days and had minor injuries that included a broken arm that has never been set right. His arm bends at a really strange angle. He has become the talk of the town, so to speak. But what we really regretted was that his wedding ring had to be cut off because his finger had swollen up so much that he was in danger of losing the finger. In that instance, you decide that the ring is replaceable and the husband’s finger isn’t.

He does have a replacement ring now which has pleased him very much since he missed the one we put on together. And yet, it is not about the ring, it’s about the love we have for each other and that has stayed put regardless of what else has happened!!!!

im just glad to hear that you were able to use common sense and let go of the ring as to save his finger. I know of some people that wouldnt have been able to have done that, and then would have ended up losing both -_-

Oh yes, the ring was precious but not nearly as precious as my husband’s life or his finger. I cannot conceive of a person who would rather lose the finger and keep the ring. How awful.

Thank you for sharing with me.
