What Happens When You Lose A Friend? You Cry
Posted by: From Arkansas in Family stuff on Dec 29 2007
Welcome back!
Yesterday, we lost a close member of our family. Now to those who see animals as animals and not as family, this won’t mean much to you. But to us, our world changed. It is still very difficult to talk about, even write about but I must get this out to make it through the rest of the holiday season.
Our precious cat named (unimaginatively) Kitty died yesterday rather unexpectedly. She was 9 and a half years old, had not been sick more than a couple of times in all the years we were blessed with her presence. She wasn’t really remarkable if you looked at her, just a cream colored tabby cat but her heart was gold. She was our companion, our medic, our friend. She loved us so much that it was impossible to love her as much though we tried.
We have some very funny stories to tell about her and some day it won;t hurt to do that. Right now, the pain still is there, too raw and fresh. You know, this was so sudden. She had been losing weight but we really did not know it because she hated to be picked up and carried. Rather, she wanted to come to us and push up onto our chins, purring so loudly that a person across the room could hear it.
For now, we will get over our hurts, our loss and go on with our lives all the richer for having had her in our lives. So, Kitty, we love you, our faithful furperson. We miss you.

I’m so very sorry. My old poi dog,Buddy, will be leaving me soon. It’s like a leaden weight in my chest, trying to prepare for the unthinkable. I do understand. and offer you my sincerest sympathies.
Thank you, Skeet. It has been trying for us. That was the longest I had ever had a cat in my home. She was a real blessing to us. But we are getting through it. Honestly, it seems like a human family member has died.
Thank you for your sympathy and comments.
I’m so sorry Val. It is hard to lose a wonderful member of our family.
Thank you for your sympathy. We appreciate it very much.
So sorry.
Thank you, Tina. We are blessed to have the sympathy of those who understand.
So sorry for your loss. I lost my dog Sam a few years back and I didn’t think I could get through it. It does get easier…
Thank you. This, for some reason, was the worst thing. Yes, I understand about your loss too. What was worse was that our dog is a senior. We were sort of expecting it of her since she is almost 14 years old. But our Kitty was not as old and not sick, at least we did not know it. She didn’t seem sick at all until the last couple of weeks.
Yes, we are getting through it but it isn’t easy when everything makes you think of things she did, even the boy cat we have does things that she used to do.
Thank you for your sympathy and comment.
I am so sorry you lost your beloved Kitty. I just had to put my dachshund, Belle, down after she suddenly had signs of degenerative disk disease, and became completely paralyzed in her back legs and had no control of her bladder. She was in real agony, so we did the right thing for her and let her go in peace.
Oddly enough, I read a book while she was still healthy and it really prepared me for her ailment and ultimate demise. In your time of grief, I recommend you look for the book “Rescuing Sprite,” by Mark Levin. Mr. Levin, a syndicated American talk show host, adopted an older dog and goes through the entire process of bringing the dog into his home, to the anguish and agony of is loss. It is a really good read and hope it helps you in your time of grief.
God bless you in your loss.
Preston
Oh I am so sorry for your loss. It is losing a family member no matter what others may think.
Thank you for encouraging us. I have not found the book although that sounds good. We have found that we look to our Lord for our comfort as we have in all this.
Thank you for your recommendation and comments.
