Wedding Bells In Minnesota

Posted by: From Arkansas in Family stuff, Just Stuff, Odds And Ends on Dec 13 2007

Welcome back!

Years ago, my cousin got married to a nice lady. The wedding was a big deal. I remember it only because the wedding was in Minnesota and we lived in Iowa. Our family had to go into St.Paul to the nuptials. I think I was about 13 or 14 and all wrapped up in myself so I do not recall as much as I should. Yet, I remember some things vividly.

For one thing, I had never been that far away from home in my life. This was a big event for me. But my cousin, who was about eight years older than me, was marrying the love of his life. Guess it was true. They are still happily married. But I do recall that the bride and groom handed out little gifts to their friends that day. It was pretty good too. I do not actually remember what my cousin gave as a groomsmen gift but the bride gave a very pretty, flowery perfume and a couple of other things that escape me at the moment. Her bridesmaids were thrilled.

The main thing for me was that I was away from home and it was fun. The only downside to the whole thing was that my Mom bought me some very white sleepwear that I was extremely embarrassed to be seen in by anyone besides the family. And of course, person after person trouped through our motel room, talking and laughing and totally ignoring me. But I thought everyone was laughing at me. I was too embarrassed to come out of the bathroom. Yes, I was a teen. LOL!
