When Do You Give Up Your Old Mattress?

Welcome back!
This is a question I ask because our mattress is many years old now. It is still in pretty good condition but it will not be that way for many more years. So, when do you know it’s time to get another really good mattress and what is a good mattress? I looked up some possibles but they are either too expensive or they would not fit what I need.
For instance, I do not want one of those that has sort of a built in pillow. My pillow runs around the bed with me. It has to be soft but not too soft. I do not want a hard-as-a-rock mattress either. I guess it would need to be about medium, whatever that really means. But I will know the one I want when I see it and try it. But until then, we will continue to have the same one on our bed that we have had for 12 years.
