Grandma Was A Great Lady

Welcome back!
In the years when my folks worked and I stayed with Grandma, she taught me some things that have never left. She used to make this pot of what she called “goulash”, her version. We had a lot of fun together cooking that up. One of my fondest memories of her was in the kitchen where she would put on one of her aprons (she had a bunch of them, all fun or pretty) and started to stir up something wonderful.
As the years went by, she brought out more and more things that I could watch her cook and learn from her. The one recipe that I was never really privy to was her apple butter. I do believe that recipe died with her because I have not had any that has truly had the same taste as hers. Perhaps it’s only my imagination that keeps me from finding that perfect match or maybe there will just never be another person to have that knack for the recipe as she knew it.

Thank you. My Grandma was a “just folks” kind of person from the hills of Kentucky who liked to cook simple things. She did many things simply because that was how you did them in those days. I am grateful for the legacy she has shared with me.
