Veterans Day: What It Means To Us
Posted by: From Arkansas in Commentary, Holidays, Odds And Ends on Nov 10 2007
Welcome back!
It was April 30, 1975 when the war, that wasn’t a war, ended in Vietnam. The American soldiers came home to jeers, anger, distance and all those things that say…you were bad. They were not seen as heroes nor were they treated like homecoming soldiers. It was like the public thought of them as being baby killers, murderers and thieves. None were treated like they were fighting and dying for their country. None.
This Veteran’s Day, these people need to be noticed and treated like they should be, heroes and veterans of a nasty, failed war. It was not their fault. They served their country with honor and pride. I have no idea why. Why should anyone want to fight for a country that treats them as this country treated those homecoming soldiers?
A War Memorial sits in Washington, D.C., honoring those fallen soldiers who died fighting so that we could remain free. We need to honor them and those who still live but are fighting their own battles now.
