Do I Ever Win Anything? Not Often. Once In A While.

Are you like me, not really getting to win anything? Actually, I have won a few things in my lifetime but they are few, far between and rare as hens teeth. Yes, I do know that quote. Hens do not have teeth for those of you who don’t get it!

But I actually have won a few things…like at bingo. A couple of times, I won $500 at our local bingo place in Missouri a bunch of years ago. I do wish I could do that more often but, then, I no longer play bingo so it would be hard to win at that again. Those wins were really nice. I needed the money at the time so I figure I was blessed by God and leave it at that.

One day, I was looking around this jewelry store, not actually expecting to find anything in my price range (meaning I had a couple of bucks on me and was wishing I had more so I could get that beautiful ring they had on sale at $899.00..sigh), when I spotted two things. One was the fact that they had an amazing amount of gemstone jewelry that just gleamed in the sunlight. Second thing I saw was a grab bag barrel. Oh, NOW yer talkin’.

What the jewelry store had in there were a lot of bags, all sizes. The salesperson that helped me said that there were several items worth a bit and most that were worth at least $10. Ah ha. The price was $1 so I grabbed a bag. Hey, I LOVE grab bags. Of course, anyone with a clue never gets grab bags because they always have that stuff nobody is willing to buy. At least, that’s what I voiced as I looked around in the barrel. The salesperson told me that everything in the barrel was something people would buy. ALL of the stuff was popular items. They were just looking for some business. It was the slow time of year and this grab bag thing had been in the paper, unknown to me at the time.

I grabbed a bag. Actually, I was going to go for the biggest one…having grown up always wanting the biggest piece of pie and cake available. But, wait a second. Think like a jeweler might think. Take the flat, little bag. It’s only a buck, for crying out loud. So, I took the little, insignificant bag. Inside was a card. It read….You have won the $100 women’s watch! OH YEAH!! It was a good day.
