The Mist, A Stephen King Movie

Welcome back!

Normally, I do not like horror stories or movies like that but this one appears to be an extra special treat for those who like that type. Stephen King is a master storyteller who has had many books and movies out in many years. But this particular movie has all the earmarks of a ticket box sellout.

You know, this title and the story line reminds me of a time when I was in California. I had to deliver a load of freight up near Sacramento but I was just east of Bakersfield at night. I needed to get that freight in Sacramento by morning. The big problem was that it was so foggy that I could not see much more than just beyond the hood of my truck. The fog was extremely thick and very eerie. Guess it would have been better if I had had another person in the cab but I was alone that night. It got pretty scary when it felt like I was totally alone in the world. That’s what happens in the fog. Being alone.

I was on a two lane highway that ran west and would meet up with interstate 5 going north. But the truck and contents had to get to the interstate first. Going no more than about 15 miles an hour, my head was stuck out the window and I drove watching the center stripe all the way. It was a blessing that no other vehicles were on that road but I had no idea if I could make it without getting into an accident. The fog continued to get thicker and thicker. Pretty soon, all I had was the center stripe. I could not even see past the hood.

Hey, you know the new movie in the title? The Mist. It looks like it would be a great movie to check out. In a happy little town, something began to flow in just like the fog I was in that night in California. Really thick. A mist that covered everything, all the people and all the town. People found that they were frightened of the mist because it was the unknown. Something could be lurking out in that mist. Something was lurking in it!

The terrified townspeople gathered inside a store for protection but that did not help. Something was out there. Something was trying to get in. A brave soul decided to walk into the mist to see if there was anything in it. They tied a rope to him. Did he come back? Something was out there trying to get in. Something bad. Something not of this world. The Mist by Stephen King. Watch the trailers, then see the movie…in theaters November 21st.

Oh, did you want to know what happened to me on that night? Well, I finally got out onto the interstate where the fog was equally bad. There were a number of other trucks going north and we joined up together. I thought there might be fifteen or twenty trucks in the line. We all told what we saw or didn’t see. About a hundred miles north of where I got on the interstate, it cleared up like I was passing through a curtain. We could see the stars! It was amazing. Even more amazing was the fact that we probably had over a hundred trucks in that line, not just the fifteen or twenty we thought were there. Not one accident among us. A blessing indeed.
