Are The School Systems Failing Our Children? Your Opinion?

Posted by: From Arkansas in Are You Kidding Me?, Beyond Bizarre, Family stuff, It Ain't Sorted, So What, It's A Rant, Odds And Ends, Shame of America on Oct 26 2007

Welcome back!

I have begun to blog about this issue because we have children (our nieces) in a school system that is not doing it’s job teaching them the basics let alone advanced subjects. If it were only this particular system, which I did think was true until I talked with other parents and guardians of children all across the country, that would be one thing but it is not just us. This is what I have called Dumbing Down America and it appears to be working beautifully.

I have had one person say that I do not have it right. Take note that it is ONLY one person. The rest of those that I have talked with and seen on forums all agree that there is a huge problem in this country. Okay, I admit that this is only a tiny part of what is going on but I have a video in this post with some proof. Now, I realize that there will be those who think that these people are unusual and not the mainstream Americans. I disagree wholeheartedly. I believe that this is the type of people coming out of our school system and have been for years upon years. You look at this and tell me that I am dreaming.

The reporter asked Name 4 countries in Europe…Oh brother.

These are but two of the many videos out there that simply prove that we Americans are not as smart as we thought we were. This country used to be the top of the line but that was years ago. Now, we can only hope that the EU (European Union for those who do not know that) will be kind to the second class country we are becoming. Please, PLEASE do not scoff at this. Try to see that we, as a country, are falling far behind because of our arrogance and the children, those who will lead us one day, are unable to even tell us what states surround the one you live in. They cannot tell you the capitols of any state outside their own. They cannot tell you who the vice President is.

Is this really the way you want your children to be? If not, isn’t it time to make a noise? Get into the game? Do something to help the children of this country. Now, you may be able to help your own child. Great!! Perhaps your child is in a charter school or private school of some type. But there are hundreds of thousands of children who have nowhere to go but the public school system that is failing miserably. Can’t you see that if that continues, we will have no future for them. There will be no “super power” to hang onto.

I will continue to call this the SHAME OF AMERICA and continue to blog about it until we see the evidence that there are people out there doing something to change things. Charter schools are certainly doing something but there are nowhere nearly enough. In our state, we have several but none in our immediate area. There is one fantastic charter school some miles from us that takes only the top 1% in the state and for only two years (11th and 12th grades) in order to prepare them for college. There are not enough. Is it too little, too late? For many it is.

I have another article on this same subject too located here: http://weebitsbuzz.blogspot.com/2006/08/our-schools-are-deplorable.html

Yes I could make a few changes on what I wrote. But not many changes. The major one would be the schools that need the funds the most get it first.

i have read in some journals about surveys that studied the test scores of different country’s high schools. The US was not at the top of any of the sections on which the schools were scored. American kids are not learning nearly as much as other countries around the world. just another example of how the world is surpassing us in virtually every way - except military spending.

Thank you very much for that link. You are so right. The American kids are not scoring high compared to worldwide scores. In fact, they score pretty low and the kids from other countries call ours “stupid”. Not good. Not good at all.

Thank you for your comments and link.
