My Grandmother, Her Daughter And Me…Eavesdropping

Posted by: From Arkansas in Family stuff, Humor, Just Stuff, Odds And Ends, That Misc. Category on Oct 24 2007

Welcome back!

Grandmother was a sweet lady but there were some things that she just did not want to talk about. On the other hand, my aunt was ready and willing to talk about most anything at most any time. My aunt, of course, was my Grandmother’s daughter. And when I was a kid, they were double old…both of them. Grandma had old lady hair, you know, gray with little teeny, tiny curls.

One day, my aunt showed up and wanted to talk to Grandma about something really serious, I could tell. She shooed me out of the room (I stayed just outside the door) and started to tell Grandma all about this guy that she needed to call. Very important. I think my aunt said something about whole life insurance which made no sense to me at all. My Grandma told her that she didn’t want to talk to the guy but she would think about this whole life thing.

You know what? I thought that a person who has all their limbs and stuff already had a whole life but why would they need an insurance something-or-other for it? Made no sense to me at all. It took me literally years to figure out what insurance was. By that time, I was being asked about whole life insurance myself. Okay, I admit it. I was not the coolest kid on the block. Sigh.
