Carter In Shouting Match With Officials In Sudan

Welcome back!
Former President Jimmy Carter in what appears to be an uncharacteristic shouting match with officials in Sudan due to the fact that they were not allowing him into the area. He was trying to meet with refugees from the ongoing conflict. It would appear that the security people simply did not want our former President to find out what they are hiding.
It seems that Carter was wanting to meet with the refugees to get the information concerning their problems and the security officials detained him outside the town at which point he and they started to shout at each other. Security told him he was not allowed into that area of the town. The former Pres. did not take that well and said he was going anyway. At that point, the shouting started and those things were repeated.
Carter angrily shouted that he was going in anyway and that they could not stop him. The U.N. folks with him told him that they could, in fact, stop him and did. He then told the security that he was going to tell the Sudanese President about that.
Frankly, I do understand Mr. Carter’s reason for anger and that he felt he should go in to help those poor, very frightened people. However, the officials at scene did have that authority and he came off sounding like a kid telling on the guy. His heart is definitely in the right place. Those people do need a great deal of help but I doubt that shouting at those security guys was going to help.
Hats off to former President Carter for doing his best to help those folks. When our country truly gets a clue as to the plight of those conflict weary and frightened people, then maybe something will actually happen. I doubt seriously that the Sudanese President will help since it’s in his home territory and he has done little to deal with the people so far.
