Telemarketers Are Strange People

Posted by: From Arkansas in Odds And Ends on Sep 23 2007

Welcome back!

The title says it all. I was a telemarketer so I can say that about them. It takes a strange person to want to call someone at supper time (or dinner for those who are more fancy) and talk their ears off about something no one wants to have. I should know. We had an automatic dialer and it dialed people at all hours..right up to 9 pm for wherever you live. That was the cutoff.

So, what are telemarketers doing anyway? For one thing, they are helping companies do market research on their particular product. It’s a good thing to do, just not at a meal time. It really wasn’t so bad when someone actually sounded interested. But, it took 20-40 calls to get that far. Sometimes, it was dry. Sometimes, lots of people were willing to listen. Now, I have to say that this was back when there was no such thing as a “do not call” list. But, if you told the telemarketer that you did not want your name on their list, it was expected that the name was removed from the list pronto.
