Putin Dissolves Government-Names Little Known Official

Posted by: From Arkansas in News And More Stuff, Political News on Sep 12 2007

Welcome back!

President Vladimir Putin dissolved the government in Russia today and it was suggested that he would be naming a little known official to be his successor next year. Putin says that he was doing the dissolving in order to have a government that was more suited to the next election and “prepare” the country for life after those elections.

The nomination of Mikhail Zubkov appeared to be geared to catch the top politicals by surprise, which it most certainly did do. Zubkov has investigated suspicious financial transactions. Some speculators believe that Putin appointing Zubkov is a signal that Putin intends to keep control after he leaves office.
