The Media Strikes Again…Causes Problems For Representative

Posted by: From Arkansas in Political News on Sep 04 2007

Welcome back!

There is no reason on earth for a news story to be stated the way this one was except to sway people’s minds concerning this particular situation with U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn. The news article states that this Representative of the United States government left threatening voice messages for a couple. They had written a letter criticizing his brand of fund raising.

What Jonathan and Anna Bartha reported to the press was that they felt intimidated and scared. Sigh. From what was actually reported AFTER you got past the first paragraph was that the Rep. was trying to get them to see that their blatant lies were a problem with consequences. They took that to mean a threat from him. What he actually said was his voice messages were asking them as “brothers and sisters in Christ” to call him back to discuss their letter with the lies in it.

It’s this type of journalism that causes so much trouble and hatred around the country because some people will actually believe what they read. They seem to think that no one writing a news article could possibly lie or slant the story in any way. HA! It has been a multitude of years, if ever, that the news was in any way reported in an unbiased manner. Although there is one network news agency that seems to be less biased than the others, it is still slanted news.

Perhaps some day we will have unbiased reporting again. I won’t hold my breath!!

Actually, the “blatant lies” that the Barthas supposedly made have been confirmed with FEC records. It now appears that if Doug Lamborn sent the check back to the donor (this has not yet been verified), it was nearly 7 months after receiving it an AFTER the Barthas sent their letter to the editor. Furthermore, Doug Lamborn defended his accepting one of the donations last summer and does not deny taking it. Finally, he did vote against dog fighting and no one knows why. He does not address that in his letter of response. It is very inappropriate for a Congressman to call a private residence and threaten “consequences” for not rescinding a letter to the editor that was and is currently backed by facts. Lamborn’s only defense is that they are liars and he refuses to show proof of ANY returned donation while the company said they can not verify it ever was returned (the first they heard about it was after this broke).

Even if Doug thought the Barthas were lying (which he knew they were not because he had not returned the donation), it is stupid to threaten consequences. It would have been smarter to ask them for their proof and see if he could find out why their statements were inaccurate and then get them to retract the statements. But he knew the statements were true and backed by public record so he tried to intimidate them instead. (Honestly he is not a bright enough guy to know how bad that looks).

Of note, the Barthas are staunch Republicans and this was not a hack job by the dems. Doug Lamborn has a history of unethical behavior and will likely not make the Republican primary ballot next year because he is so unpopular. Fortunately, this is a very safe seat and we will elect a conservative republican to replace him next year.

Well, that goes to show you how the media reports these things. The only stories I found about this had it the way I put it on the post. Now you are saying it’s another way entirely. I want to thank you for your comment. I will be researching this and trying to find out more about this.

It is noticed that the media is often against the President and the Republican leadership at least. It does not surprise me that there are wrong doers in the Republican party. It only surprises me that there are none or very few in the Democratic party.

I will be checking this out. Thanks!
