Jerry Lewis Has Mouth Attack
Posted by: From Arkansas in My Take on Things, News And More Stuff on Sep 04 2007
Welcome back!
Jerry Lewis, everyone’s favorite clown and icon of the Muscular Dystrophy telethon which set a new record on Monday, is accused of saying an “anti-gay” slur on the telethon late at night. He was apparently talking to a staff member while on live television. It is fairly well known that Jerry Lewis is all about getting a cure for the horrible diseases associated with Muscular Dystrophy. The slur was the same one that Isaiah Washington said before being removed from “Grey’s Anatomy” on ABC.
It seems to me that there are more and more of these incidents happening but, in reality, they have probably been here all along. It’s just that now more people are using that to cry their war cry and be noticed in print and on television. Personally, I do not see a problem here. The person who said the thing had no business saying it. BUT, and here is where I leave behind all of those who want to see a hanging, there were circumstances in some of these cases that simply make it a goof, a slip, just something said. It needs to be left alone.
Too many people with touchy feelings are getting into the act here. Let’s go back a bit. Mel Gibson had bad night and was spouting racial slurs to someone. It wasn’t right. He apologized over and over for this. Nevertheless, there were some who were not satisfied until he cut off an ear or something. He should be hung by his fingernails or whatever. Then there was the guy from Seinfield, Michael Richards, who was doing a standup routine when someone started to heckle him. Now, as I understand it, there are all sorts of heckling at those things. He fought back with racial slurs. He was wrong. He apologized and it wasn’t enough.
Moving on to Don Imus who was doing his radio show in the same manner that he had been doing (accepted by the networks in all that time), mouthed some racial and gender slurs. He was wrong to do it. He apologized and it, too, was not enough. I could go on but what’s the point.
People, isn’t it time to take a look at what you are griping about? Folks are going to mouth racial, gender and gay slurs for a long time to come. Are you so sensitive that you have to react by not allowing the apology to stand? Do you need some body part cut off to satisfy your craving for revenge because that IS what that is when an apology is not enough. Some people are deranged enough to sue. Yeah, the courts sure need another lawsuit pending, don’t they?
If we are truly adults, then these things are simply words that can hurt or not, depending on how you want to take it. You can see it for what it’s worth or you can go to an extreme and get all hyper about it. How about we step back, take a deep breath and grow UP!!!

Seems it has become fashionable that anything said about race, ethinicity or sexual preference even in a comedic setting or just making a joke are being taken seriously.
I blame Al Sharpton, MediaMatters and the lot. They seem to want to hog the air-waves about absolutely nothing.
We as American’s can’t even say something off color and be considered a racist or bigot.
And Sharpton the biggest racist in the U.S. should be ashamed of himself. He stirs up trouble when there isn’t any just so he get his fat mugg on TV and his words broadcast thru a microphone.
It is time we believe our sensitivity has become too touchy feely.
The whole thing is a joke.
While I agree with you that Mr. Sharpton is a major character in this little play, he is by no means the only one. Mr. Obama is stirring up these things as well. But even they are not all of what’s happening.
There are simply too much touchy feelings out there. Any comment can be construed as being racist, sexist or whateverist. I am absolutely certain that someone can come along and call me intolerant because of my beliefs as well. I have had them say so in other post comments. Nothing new.
The bottom line is…if we do not believe as you do, we are the whateverist that you want us to be. That keeps your own conscience clean and it’s all someone else’s fault. THAT is what’s going on here. The bottom line.
Thank you for giving your opinion!!
