Comment Spammers: Not On My Blog, You Don’t!

Today, I received several comments on this and one other blog that were what I believe to be comment spamming. When someone comes to your blog, sees a lot of posts and comments on them with a couple of words each but puts their url to a commercial site, do you consider that comment spamming? I do.
So, I have put an update note about spamming into my disclosure policy at the bottom. Essentially it is this. If I believe that what you are doing is simple spamming on comments to get your url into my blog, I will delete it and all of your comments. If you have relevant comments to my posts and a url, no matter how many comments you make, they will be allowed. What I had today between two blogs was about 8 comments, all very short. Most didn’t even make sense. So, what would you do with “very nicely”? That was one of the eight comments that were mostly in a similar vein.
I will check each comment and answer because I love comments. It does not matter if you agree with me or not. You are invited to share your views about my posts. Those I will not delete unless littered with obscenities, flames or lack of relevance. I know what it’s like to read something you like but blank when it comes to commenting. Had that myself. Sometimes, I do not comment if I cannot think of something better than “That’s a good point.”

I just went though this today. I don’t get many comments so I remember most of them very well. This morning I woke up to a new comment on my design blog. I took a look at it and laughed. I then went over to my old design blog and saw the exact same comment by the exact same person. I deleted the links they had but left the comment. Since it fooled me the first time I figured it seemed real enough to keep.
Great idea there. I also got an idea from another reader who deleted the posts, emailed the companies involved and warned them about spamming, emailed the person who did the comments in the first place and warned them. Not bad. Thank you for commenting here.
