Sometimes We Need A Spelling Lesson…Sometimes We Don’t

If you are old enough to remember the commercial about Almond Joy and Mounds, you know how that title goes. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t. Uh huh. So, now I feel like a nut for bringing this subject up because it really isn’t a big deal. And yet it drives me a tiny bit nuts too. What am I talking about? Spelling. Specifically spelling the word “Duh”!
Okay, that is so goofy as to not be a problem usually. I admit that I tend to get a bit nuts over this. Why? Because half of those who write it write duh and the other half write doh. Now, I am not an expert by any means. Not a linguist at all. So, my opinion is simply my opinion but I do have one.
Seems that the word “duh” came into existence somewhere around the time that my daughter was in high school. That would be in the neighborhood of the earlyl 80s. Now, when this particular version of the word “duh” came up, it came from the mouth of a Simpson and the word was “doh” or so I’m told. Is anyone getting this yet?
The word is DUH! not DOH! or are we allowing a cartoon to tell us how to spell a word. I don’t think so. The whole world is in DUH mode anyway. Must we have these spelling lessons simply because our latest cartoon says it’s so? NO WAY!
The word is DUH. Now, what’s your opinion? I really want to know.

Oh my gosh, I TOTALLY agree with you! I can NOT stand to see the word “doh”, and I wish everyone would spell “duh” correctly.
Yes, I knew there were more of us out there! I hate seeing that spelling of the word duh. Obviously, it isn’t in the dictionary…I don’t think it is anyway. Someday it will be. What a weird world we live in.
