My Life As A Mad Hatter

Welcome back!
You would think I am a mad hatter, you know, like the guy in Alice In Wonderland at the tea party. I want to be able to just have a nice life, no stress to speak of, get a cut and style once in a while. Be happy. You would think this is not that hard to do. Ah but then, enter the Social Security Administration and the stress-free life is over, not gonna happen. Ya think not? HA!
Yesterday, we got notice in the mail that the social security people wanted their money back. They messed up our checks and now they want it back. We did nothing wrong at all. Didn’t know they were doing anything. Seems that although the checks are for the previous month, the medicare payments are not. So, when you stop having other sources paying for your medicare payments, they automatically take TWO payments out at once, just to get the accounting straight. And, for the record, the worker will tell you that they cannot do anything about it.
See, you have these people on a fixed income, unable to fight any type of problems when the social security outfit chooses to get their money, you have no recourse except to appeal. Oh yeah, when you do, they have already taken theirs out. You do not stop anything by appealing. Isn’t that nice. While you starve to death, they have their money back and you cannot stop them. Is there no justice with these people? The answer is absolutely not. They do not care about you. They never will. It’s a corrupt system that desperately needs changing. The problem is that the only people that will change it, won’t. It would mess up their standing in the congress. Congress equals lack of progress. Makes sense, doesn’t it. Not good. Not good at all.
So, I am now living the life of a mad hatter. I figure if I make hats mad, that could help…somehow. Seems to be as logical as anything else I heard today.

What a mess! And to make matters worse, if a private company pulled that kind of stuff they’d get in all sorts of legal trouble. But the government? They can do whatever they like and there’s very little recourse.
“The government giveth and the government taketh away.”
Yes, it is a mess. It gets worse but I didn’t want to add anything else to this but it really is much worse than I mentioned.
Absolutely, if a private company pulled that, someone would sue them, if nothing else. Yet, the government can pretty much get away with whatever they want to and we cannot actually sue them. We can appeal but she made sure we got it that there was little to no use in doing so for this anyway.
I have appealed before and won but that was for another reason. Sigh.
