Hurricane Makes Endeavour’s Return Uncertain

Posted by: From Arkansas in News And More Stuff, Techno Stuff on Aug 18 2007

Welcome back!

It seems that the hurricane, now a category 4, is causing more problems than just where to hide in the event of the storm going to Texas. Apparently, NASA is worried that if Dean should hit Texas, they might have to evacuate the Mission Control Center and relocate to Canaveral.

For a while, the gouge in the underbelly caused some concern but NASA has determined that there would be no problems coming from that direction. So, they were scheduled to unhook from the space station on Monday and would land a few days later but now it is not as sure a thing as before. If the hurricane should threaten the U.S. in Texas, there would be a major problem with relocating the flight controllers to Florida. The Endeavour would need to leave on Sunday and set down on Tuesday, which would put the landing prior to the possible landing of Hurricane Dean. It is now a watch and see time.
