I AM SO MAD! Spiderman-3 Only In Blu-Ray

Posted by: From Arkansas in It's A Rant on Aug 12 2007

Welcome back!

I am so mad at the Sony corporation right now. They are only putting the movie “Spiderman-3″ out on blu-ray. Who are these people??? I can’t even say what I think because I have a clean blog and intend to keep it that way. They are IGNORING a majority of the consumers by doing this. At this point, I can see pirated copies coming out and taking over the sales. I cannot believe that these people are so ignorant as to bypass so many consumers. I can tell you this, we had no intention of buying anything having to do with blu-ray. We do not like it and do not want it. If that means finding other ways to have a movie, so be it. They deserve to lose a bundle on this.

Of course, it’s not bad enough that Sony does this. So is Universal doing the same thing with “The Bourne Ultimatum”.

Am I the only one here that thinks this stinks??? I am all for boycotting Sony and Universal products for a while til they get a clue. Whether anyone else does this or not, I am. Those companies are trying what they all are capable of doing, driving the market the way they want it. We, the consumers, have power too but we do not use it that often. Now is a great time to get into the action by showing your muscle. Do not buy Sony or Universal products. I realize that means we do not get some of the best movies out there but this is a principle thing.

These companies have no right to dictate what we buy and don’t buy. But they are trying to bring the HD DVD players and the Blu-Ray players into the forefront so that the regular DVD will go by the wayside just like the VHS player has done. I see why the tape players did but not this. Some of us can’t just go out and buy anything that’s coming out new on the market. I know that many of you can, but we have a limited income. We are already smarting from having to buy a new television next year because our analog tv won’t be good enough anymore.

All hail the stupid companies that run our lives. Kiss my…..what? My rant is not over but it is finished for the moment.

I was reading an article this weekend which seemed to indicate that Blu-Ray was the wave of the future. I’m going to sit back and wait awhile before investing in any Blu-Ray discs or players.

I understand that one. Unfortunately, some of us can’t (not that we want to) just go out and buy a new Blu-ray or other product like it for the price they want. It has to come down in price first. THEN, what are we to do with all those DVDs we own? We have about 500 titles.

      Thanks for commenting.

I understand your frustration, and fully support your concept of boycotting these companies until they provide the product that you’re interested in purchasing. However, I must take exception to one of your statements:

“These companies have no right to dictate what we buy and don’t buy.”

While you’re right that they have no right to dictate what you buy, they also aren’t doing that. You are, as always, free to buy their product or not. Or was there another news story somewhere saying Sony was going to simply ship you a copy of Spiderman 3 on Blu Ray and charge your credit card without your consent?

Every company does, however, have the right to decide what product(s) it wishes to produce and we, the consumers, have no right to dictate those products. We can request (and even demand) specific products in specific formats either through direct communication or by “voting” with our dollars. But, if the companies choose no tto listen, that is their pergoative as well.

You know, you are right. Thing is, that is (and I hate to use this word because it is so overused now) discriminitory in that they are making the market work their way instead of putting out product that will serve the customer, who after all, is why they exist in the first place. If that’s not true, then when the customers leave in droves, there should not be a problem, right?

Gone, LONG GONE, are the days of “the customer is always right”. Now it’s, the heck with the customer, I want my money. (I REALLY cleaned that up)

Now, they can do what they want. It’s their company. But why are they there in the first place, hmmm? CUSTOMERS!!!!

We can do what we want. BUT, no matter what happens, I will be left out of being able to buy those movies as long as those companies want to run the market for their personal gain instead of caring about their customers. What a concept. Care about something beyond one’s own interests. WOW!! Yeah right. These companies might as well have “we want money, money, money” on their signs. (again cleaned up) That’s what they are doing.

A much more accurate rant. Except for one thing I discovered while hunting for more info on the blu-ray only discs…

When Sony says “blu-ray only” they don’t men no DVD, they mean no HD-DVD. They are still releasing it on regular DVD. The battle they’re fighting isn’t to get you to buy an HD or Blu-Ray player, making your non HD player obsoloete, it’s to get the people looking to upgrade to go blu-ray instead of HD-DVD.

The DVD version of Spiderman 3 is currently the #86 best selling dvd at amazon.com

Hey, great. I got my obviously second hand info from a couple of news releases about this subject. I try not to rehash but give my opinion also. If they are still doing the DVD, I am not all that upset. I just want to watch my DVDs. I’m hoping that others will still take up the fight if they do not like the single mindedness of the companies though.

Thank you for giving me that info. I appreciate it.
