Computers Delay Incoming At LAX

Posted by: From Arkansas in News And More Stuff, Techno Stuff on Aug 12 2007

Welcome back!

Seems that the computers failed at Los Angeles International Airport Saturday while 20,000 international travelers, both American and foreign, waited in 60 planes and 4 airport terminals from 2 pm to about 11:45 pm when the computers came back up and were able to process them into the U.S. They continued to be processed on into Sunday.

Apparently a major switch failed and had to be replaced. It’s job was to give information about incoming passengers such as names and law enforcement information about them, including any warrants they might have. This tool enables the local officers to decide whether to let the person in the U.S. or not.

While it was uncomfortable in the planes, passengers did have access to food, water and restrooms although I doubt that would be that comforting to those who missed connecting flights or had to be on the tarmack for several hours. Naturally, the people will be mad at the airport officials and customs officers.
