Immigrants, Should They Be Allowed To Stay?

Welcome back!
I have a real problem here because I believe, firmly, that those who come here illegally should be either allowed to stay and become citizens or be deported. I believe that this country, while made up of a melting pot, speaks English as the primary language. Yet, those who come here do not choose to learn the language. Those who come here expect to be able to stay even if they are illegal.
There was an interview with an illegal immigrant who had lived in the U.S. for 18 years. He said that it was descrimination that he could not stay…was deported. EXCUSE ME????? For 18 years, this guy lives here, works here, does whatever he does but he makes absolutely no effort (or he could have had this) to become a U.S. citizen, get a green card..nothing. But we are descriminating against him. I DON’T THINK SO. How is he being treated badly?
This is likely to be against what many people think about this but here goes. I believe that they should not be allowed to be here if they are illegal. However, there are something like 11 million illegals here without papers, green card or whatever. I get it that some of them are afraid to get near a government office for fear of being deported. Perhaps our government could come up with something that would allow those who have already been here X number of years to get amnesty, get the green card within a period of time and then they are legal. Those who continue to hide out, get the boot when found.
Yet, I have a problem here. The guy who has been here 18 years wasn’t afraid to yell “descrimination” was he. So, there are those who are not afraid, they simply want something handed to them on a platter, like “descrimination boy” perhaps.
Yes, I am angry with those who feel they can come to our country, not learn the language, not try for green cards, not try to become citizens, yet they want everything done for them, handed to them. What’s that all about? In the end, the American people pay for these people who, for the most part because they are hiding out, are not paying taxes. Hey, if they are being law abiding people, let them become citizens or get green cards. I am all for that.
See, I have been to Mexico in the poorer places. It is massive poverty. I really do not blame them for wanting something more. So would I. BUT, there is a good way to do this. Maybe I just don’t see all the problems here. Oh wait, our government.
Never mind.

I completely agree with this article. I am firmly against illegal immigrants fleeing to the states in spite of the glamour, or as noted the “melting pot”. Many immigrants from Mexico flee because of harsh environments and most importantly to benefit their families. Recently the deportation of an immigrant that lived here for up to 15 years, was deported and the money he saved during that time was confiscated. I feel that that the government is too extreme when it comes to those immigrants who have done the right thing by obtaining a job and most importantly paid taxes. There is unfair treatment of hard working immigrants everyday. Furthermore, they should all be given a chance to find work and obtain a green card. In light of this suggestion, the government should at least grant a 3-6 month period for the immigrants to obtain a job and a green card upon deportation date. This would probably help out those immigrants who really and truly need to remain in the United States.
I totally agree that there is harsh treatment for the hardworking immigrants. I agree that they should be allowed the chance to get a green card and that they should be given an amount of time to do so. I am fine with that.
I agree that when they are busted, that there is harsh treatment then. People should not have to surrender what they have earned when they are being deported. If the money was obtained legally as in hard work, honest job, then they should get to keep it. If it was drug money or some other totally illegal funds, then no, I don’t think they have the right to keep it. The problem here is that the law is vague more than likely. Too broad to help on this question.
I also agree that those who have already lived here for years should be treated a bit differently than someone who was just caught coming in since they made this country their home. I believe they should have some type of amnesty. But the amnesty should not run for years.
There should be one call of amnesty when everyone who is illegal comes forward and the government signs them in legally. That call should last X number of weeks or months. At the end of that, anyone caught in this country illegally should be deported. There is an “unless” here. Those fleeing for their lives, case by case basis, should be given sanctuary because that is what our country stood for for so many years.
Yes, there are deplorable conditions in Mexico. I have seen the poverty myself. I do not blame those who feel they must come here to change that. I agree with them. However, what happened to following the rules? Perhaps I am missing something here. Do we have a quota on those people too? Would they get deported if our quota was met for this year? If that’s the case, somehow the rule has to change. Perhaps no quota for our neighbor to the south. Could be that they Mexican government doesn’t want us to allow that? Good question.
There is no doubt that many of the folks that come here, whether legally or illegally, contribute to our country in ways we cannot imagine. It is necessary for our government to see this and change the rules. Those rules were for when the numbers of people coming into this country was not so large. Time to get a hold of your congresspeople and deal with it.
What I do NOT agree with is that the guy who has been here 18 years, has made zero attempt to get legal, has done nothing whatsoever to change his status but has a business here and has the gall to cry foul…discrimination..when he gets caught. Uh no. That is not right by any stretch of the word. Obviously, with the money he made from the business, he could have gotten a lawyer and worked out an agreement with this country if only he had tried that. So no. I do not agree with him.
What gets me about that guy is that he took all the resources he could from our country and then when he got caught, THEN he cries discrimination. Where was the discrimination when he had a business and was making bucks? Hmmm. None then.
