Welcome back!
Firefighters are battling a huge wildfire in western Montana at this moment. About 200 homes had to be evacuated. The fires that are raging northeast of Missoula near Lakes Placid and Seeley are being helped by winds of 30 miles per hour.
“This fire is in the hands of God right now,” Gov. Brian Schweitzer said after a flight over the blaze, which had burned nearly 8 square miles since starting Friday afternoon. (a quote from the AP) He was determined not to risk firefighters lives on such a wild fire.
The governor informed the residents that they needed to get the livestock out of the pens and let them loose. They were to get their pets, shut off the electricity, turn off the propane tanks and leave quickly. At the time of the report, no homes had been affected.
Another fire near Helena is raging as well. It has consumed over 37,000 acres or about 58 miles. Yet another fire in Montana near Whitefish has damaged 14,000 acres in Flathead National Forest.
Other fires across the country are being fought by tiring firefighters in California, Michigan and New Jersey. The fires in California have been burning for about a month now. There appears to be no end in site.
