How Many Calories Are You Really Consuming?

Welcome back!
Before I started to go on diets galore, I never thought about how many calories I was consuming. Never. It didn’t occur to me. It was too much trouble. Took too much time. I had no idea what the calorie count of those items were anyway. All the excuses I could find, I used.
When I got so big that it was starting to be necessary to look into how much I was consuming, I was shocked. There were days when the count was in the neighborhood of 5000+ calories a day!!! Oh you think you won’t do that? Hmmm. Okay, try this? Do you eat pizza? How many slices? How many calories a slice? Do you even know? According to the Pizza Hut guide, their’s contains 330 calories a slice for the pepperoni lover’s pizza. Oh hey, how about a whole pizza. A super supreme is 2772 calories. Now, how many slices did you say you eat? Yeah, I know. One. HA!!! How about going to the buffet at Pizza Hut? I watch people go up two and three times to load up on pizza. Figure it out. If a person only eats 4 slices with salad….the pizza alone will be 1320 calories.
Now, do you ever eat the goodies things like cake, cookies, pie, even granola bars? Want to check out how many calories are in those? Uh huh, I didn’t think so. Me either. But here’s the thing. If you eat out at fast food places, you can count on counting up BIG numbers with the calories. BIG NUMBERS. So, we eat at home more now than we used to. It helps.
Now that you watched that, if you are not shocked, at least be smart.
Tip: Write down everything you eat for a couple of weeks no matter what it is. That taste of the food cooking is included. If you leave anything out, you only cheat yourself. At the end of the two weeks, review what you had. Now find a way to change your eating habits to something yu really want to do. Someday, that mirror will look pretty good.
For those who do not have to go through all this…BRAVO!!! I am glad for you. Help those of us who are larger than you by not staring at us like we have the plague or like we are not allowed in a resturant that you are in. Just because we are heavier than you does not mean we have no feelings. It does not mean that we can’t come in because we might actually eat. Teach your children that it is wrong to stare and talk about others. Excuse me. This is a whole other post.

I went on a low fat diet recently where I get no more than 9gm of fat per meal. When you really start looking at labels it’s unbelieveable what you can’t eat when you start to actually keep track.
Yes, I know. My husband and I went on the Atkins diet…loosely..and it was really something to look at all the labels and the stuff you cannot have with any diet really.
Just as an aside, the Atkins is great for short term. Wouldn’t want to bet my life on a long term with that one.
The carbs in all of those fast food meals, forget the calories…the carbs are gonna get ya!!!
