John Wayne Remembered In Bronze
Posted by: From Arkansas in Websites You Shouldn't Miss on Jul 29 2007
Welcome back!
Although John Wayne has been gone from us for nearly 30 years, there are still people who want to honor him. Such is the case with the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. Wayne was a trustee for the museum from the day it opened in 1965 until his death in 1979. He believed in the message the museum gave to people.
The artist modeled the 8 ft., 8 inch bronze statue after John Wayne as a person in an epic, not as a particular character. Yet the statue has on cowboy boots, hat, chaps, spurs, wearing a gun belt and carrying a rifle. Two of his grandchildren were in attendance for the unveiling.
